In 1942, Harry Leibowitz of Columbia Container decided to start his own company. Lanco Supply Co, the forerunner to Lanco York, Inc., was created in New York City and sold corrugated, twine, tape, staplers, staples, and other shipping needs. In 1953, the company moved to Brooklyn and concentrated on manufacturing corrugated packaging and established Lanco York as a sheet plant. In 1984, Harry’s son, Mitchell, took over the business. Under his guidance, the company experienced growth in both corrugated shippers and plastic bottles. In 2000, Lanco York outgrew its manufacturing plant and established two facilities, Paterson, NJ and Commack, NY. In 2003, Mark Leibowitz, 3rd generation, joined the company and in 2009 became President of Lanco York. He has continued to oversee the company’s growth and under Mark’s leadership, Lanco York has expanded its capabilities to position itself to scale to where the company stands today.
